Profile: Jem from Jem Howard Photography

As part of a new feature on The Bride's Diary Blog, we will be introducing you to individuals who work in the wedding industry... giving you an insight into who they are and why they love weddings!

This week we've been chatting with Jem Howard, owner and principal photographer at Jem Howard Photography. Jem spoke to us about her passion for photography and her love of capturing all the little moments in life...

• Tell us a little about your business…

I'm a people photographer. Other than food, people are what I photograph. My aim is to thrill my clients with the images I capture of them and I plan to be doing this for decades.
• What is your role in the business and why are you passionate about it?

I am the owner/operator of Jem Howard Photography. Capturing a moment never to be repeated or a connection between individuals is the highlight of my job. I get an enormous buzz from photographing weddings and as I approach the birth date of my own bub I am falling more deeply in love with newborn and kids portraiture!
• How long have you been working in the industry?

Since 2004 - wow but it only feels like 2 years or so….
• What is one of your favourite recollections from your business?

I recently photographed an older couple and it will be one of those shoots that will stay with me forever. A voucher was bought by their daughter and I assumed it was for the entire family. Mrs Brack called to discuss times and locations and it turns out the portrait sitting was a gift from their four kids for them to do something romantic together. We met in iconic King's Park and as we wandered through the grounds making use of the light from the stunning, Spring morning I learned of their love story… They were such loving, warm, generous souls! They smiled and held hands like newlyweds but have been happily married for over forty years. People like them are the reason I bound out of bed every morning for "work!"
• Tell us a bit about your family and home life…

I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, an aunty and a Mum-to-be! All important and rewarding roles in my life.
• How do you enjoy spending your spare time?

I love to take photos of my loved ones (!) swim, read, garden, travel and cook
• What is your most memorable life experience?

Ooo, there are many… traveling through Europe by myself was a massive adventure and so satisfying. The highlight of that was seeing the Eiffel Tower for the first time. I had recently graduated from Uni where I studied French so being in the city of love where I could use my French was thrilling!
• What are your plans for the future?

I'll be a Mum soon so the plan is juggle my passion for people… photographing them and loving my family.
